Frequently Asked Questions

THE GROUNDWORK, EXPLAINED.

The important questions, answered simply. From what The Groundwork teaches to how the programmes work, what to expect and how to get involved.

What exactly is The Groundwork?

The Groundwork is practical education built around three essential foundations: awareness, regulation and connection.

In a world of constant stimulation, digital influence, increasing pressure and rapid change, the ability to understand ourselves, regulate our responses, think critically and stay connected to ourselves, each other and the natural world has never been more important.

Yet these are skills we're often expected to develop without ever being taught.

The Groundwork changes that. It takes complex ideas about psychology, behaviour and everyday life and makes them simple to understand and practical to use. From children to adults, it's knowledge and skills for navigating the world we're living in and shaping the one future generations will inherit.

Who is The Groundwork for?

The Groundwork is for children, young people, adults, parents, schools and communities.

Whether you're raising a child, questioning your own patterns, navigating life's pressures or wanting to create a more supportive learning environment, the foundations remain the same.

Awareness, regulation and connection are skills for every age and every stage of life. The learning simply meets you where you are.

What are some simple ways to live more sustainably?

No. The Groundwork is practical education, not therapy, counselling or a diagnostic service.

It's about recognising the patterns, emotions and responses that shape everyday life, then learning practical tools to make more conscious choices.

For children, it's about building essential skills to navigate an increasingly fast-paced and demanding world. For adults, families, schools and communities, it's about strengthening awareness, regulation and connection in everyday life.

The learning sparks awareness, opens up important conversations and provides tools you can carry for life and pass on to the next generation.

You'll never be required to share personal information or experiences. You're here to learn, not to be analysed.

Will I have to share personal experiences in a group?

Absolutely not.

The Groundwork is a learning environment, not a space where anyone is expected to share private experiences, revisit difficult memories or tell their personal story.

Whether you're a child, adult, teacher or community participant, the focus is on gaining knowledge, developing practical skills and learning how to apply them in everyday life.

You're welcome to listen, reflect, ask questions and participate at your own comfort level.

What you take away matters far more than what you share.

What will children learn?

The five-week Groundwork Method gives children practical skills built around awareness, regulation and connection.

Through interactive activities, everyday examples and age-appropriate learning, children will:

  • Recognise their emotions and understand what they're telling them.

  • Notice their body's signals and learn ways to manage overwhelm.

  • Communicate their needs and build meaningful connections.

  • Develop confidence, critical thinking and skills to navigate everyday challenges.

These aren't just skills for childhood. They're foundations children can carry into adulthood.

What will adults learn?

Roots to Seeds is a five-week learning journey exploring how your experiences, inherited beliefs and learned behaviours shape the way you live, think and respond.

Through relatable examples, practical exercises and small-group learning, you'll:

  • Understand how childhood experiences and inherited beliefs influence the way you think, feel and respond.

  • Recognise your stress responses and learn practical ways to regulate.

  • Identify patterns in your communication, boundaries and connection with others.

  • Make conscious choices about what you carry forward and what you change.

The goal isn't to become a different person. It's to understand yourself well enough to make different choices.

How much do programmes and workshops cost?

Accessibility isn't an afterthought at The Groundwork. It's fundamental to why it exists.

Awareness, regulation and connection aren't luxuries. They're essential life skills, and financial circumstances shouldn't determine who gets the opportunity to learn them.

That's why many of our programmes are delivered in small groups. Participants learn the same method, gain access to the same knowledge and practical tools, while the shared format helps keep costs down without compromising the quality of learning.

We also have a Pay It Forward initiative, where individuals and businesses can contribute to a community funding pool, helping children, families and others access learning opportunities they might otherwise miss out on.

Pricing varies across children's and adult programmes, school delivery and community workshops, depending on the format and requirements.

The goal is simple: make essential education accessible to as many people as possible, giving them skills they can carry for life and pass on to the next generation.

What if I can't afford a programme?

Please don't let the cost stop you from reaching out.

The Groundwork's Pay It Forward initiative exists to help make learning opportunities accessible to people who might otherwise miss out.

Through contributions from individuals, businesses and the wider community, the funding pool helps support access to programmes where funding is available.

Funded places depend on available contributions, but everyone is welcome to enquire.

Because the people who could benefit from these skills shouldn't be excluded by the cost of learning them.

Can individuals and businesses support The Groundwork?

Absolutely. Creating meaningful change takes a village, and there are many ways to be part of it.

Through The Groundwork's Pay It Forward initiative, individuals, local businesses and organisations can contribute to a shared funding pool that helps make programmes accessible to children, families and others who might otherwise miss out.

Contributions of any size help build opportunities for more people to access practical education in awareness, regulation and connection.

Whether you're a small business wanting to give back, an organisation looking to invest in community wellbeing, or an individual who believes in what we're building, there's a place for you.

This is about more than funding a place in a programme. It's about investing in skills that can strengthen families, communities and future generations.
