For Schools
Schools are carrying more than ever.
Behaviour is more complex.
Anxiety is showing up earlier.
Attention, regulation and emotional capacity have shifted.
Teachers are being asked to support learning, wellbeing and increasing complexity - all at once.
The Groundwork supports schools with practical, realistic approaches that help students feel settled and ready to learn, while also supporting the adults who hold the classroom every day.
Because what’s showing up in classrooms today isn’t just behaviour.
It’s the nervous system.
Staff Professional Learning
Today’s classrooms are demanding more from teachers than ever before.
This professional learning focuses on simple, realistic shifts that help classrooms feel calmer, more predictable and easier to manage - without adding to staff workload.
Staff learn how to:
• Understand what sits underneath challenging behaviour
• Reduce overload through environment, routines and classroom structure
• Use small regulation supports within normal teaching practice
• Respond to dysregulation in calm, effective ways
• Support co-regulation and staff wellbeing

Practical. Realistic. Designed for the realities of school life.

Parent Evening
Because children’s behaviour makes more sense when you understand the world they’re growing up in.
When home and school understand the same picture, children benefit.
Parent evenings help families make sense of what’s driving big emotions and behaviour - and how small, everyday changes at home can support calmer, more regulated children.
Parents learn:
• Why many children are feeling overwhelmed earlier than before
• What behaviour is really communicating
• How modern life impacts sleep, regulation and emotional capacity
• Simple ways to reduce pressure and overstimulation at home
• Routines that support calm, connection and security
Real-life support - not theory, and not parenting perfection.
Student Sessions
These sessions help children understand their body’s stress signals, notice overwhelm sooner, and learn simple tools to regulate, reset and return to focus.

Students learn how to:
• recognise what stress and big emotions feel like in their body
• spot their early warning signs before they escalate
• use practical reset tools like movement, breath and grounding
• settle their system and come back to calm
• grow confidence managing challenges, emotions and daily life

When children can understand what’s happening inside them, they’re better equipped to manage learning, relationships and life.

Grounded in Aotearoa’s Education Context
The Groundwork aligns with the refreshed New Zealand Curriculum by strengthening the foundations students need to feel settled, connected and ready to learn.

This approach supports Hauora and the Key Competencies - particularly Managing Self and Relating to Others - by helping students understand what’s happening in their bodies and giving them practical ways to respond.

It also supports school priorities around inclusion, engagement and positive behaviour (including PB4L), by reducing overwhelm and creating calmer, more regulated learning environments.
This work fits within existing school structures.
It’s not about adding more - it’s about supporting what’s already happening, so students are better able to engage, learn and participate.

Where possible, elements like movement, fresh air and time outside can be used as simple tools to support regulation - but the core skills can be applied anywhere, within everyday classroom environments.

Lets work together
When students are overwhelmed, learning becomes harder.
When they feel calm, safe and settled, they’re better able to focus, engage and participate.
The Groundwork supports schools to strengthen the conditions that help students regulate, stay engaged and access learning.
If your school is noticing increasing anxiety, behaviour challenges or student overwhelm, I’d be happy to talk about how this work could support your staff and students.
