Businesses Helping Bring Childhood Back
Childhood has changed.
Many children today spend more time on screens and less time exploring, connecting and simply being kids.At the same time, the rising cost of living means experiences that build confidence and memories aren’t always easy for families to access.
The Groundwork exists to help shift that.
This work is guided by the spirit of manaaki - looking after others and supporting the wellbeing of our community.
Through the support of local businesses, we’re helping create opportunities for children to spend time outside, build confidence and experience the kind of childhood that helps them grow strong on the inside.
Together, we can help bring more of those moments back.

How Businesses Support Manaaki
Each school holidays, local businesses help make one or two Manaaki family experiences possible for children and their whānau.
These are simple but meaningful moments designed to create connection, confidence and lasting memories.
Experiences change with the seasons and might include things like punting on the Avon, a winter night at the Crusaders, a visit to Orana Park, or a shared meal and book to enjoy together.
Families are identified through schools, community connections and local networks to help ensure these opportunities reach those who will benefit most.
At the heart of this is manaaki - looking after others and supporting the wellbeing of our community.
