When Kids Say “I’m Bored” - Don’t Fix It

Updated: Feb 24

The moment a child says,“I’m bored”…

we fix it.

We offer a screen.

Suggest an activity.

Turn something on.

Fill the space.

Because boredom feels uncomfortable.

But boredom isn’t a problem.

It’s actually where something important begins.

When there’s nothing to do…the brain has to figure something out.

That’s when imagination kicks in.

That’s when creativity starts.

That’s when kids learn to entertain themselves, solve problems, and think for their own ideas.

But if every quiet moment gets filled…that skill never grows.

And the truth is - our kids don’t experience much empty space anymore.

There’s constant stimulation.

Screens. Noise.

Schedules.

Entertainment always available.

Their brains are getting used to being fed, instead of creating.

And over time, that makes it harder to focus.

Harder to think deeply.

Harder to sit with something that isn’t instantly exciting.

Boredom builds patience.

It builds creativity.

It builds the ability to stay with slow.

And nature is one of the best places for it.

Outside, there’s no instant reward.

No fast entertainment.

Just space.Time.

Room for the mind to wander.

And that wandering is where thinking grows.

In a world that moves fast and fills every moment…

our kids don’t need more stimulation.

They need more empty space.

Because boredom isn’t a problem.

It’s where thinking begins.
